how do you teach poetry
shall you instruct
how to have a soul
in chairs, facing front
apple on the table
will you tell me how to feel
in alphabetical order
you would do well
to hold class
at the edge of the volcano
the center of the storm

  1. Great idea! I think you have to experience life, the ups and downs to appreciate poetry. Some experience sooner than others. I didn’t “get” poetry when younger. The only poem that resonated with me was “Go Down Death” by James Weldon Johnson. I still want it read at my funeral, or a loved one’s if I’m still here. Now, thanks to you, I have discovered, rediscovered? poetry.
