School terms

You called me smart
you said hey–we can’t be (real) friends
but I will buy your book someday
your words [we] value more than you
evidence of life, behind
dark bangs and pink cheeks

What a stunner you will be someday
if you lose a few pounds, you
will be fighting the men off–
True, there were men that saw beyond
what school’boys did, in time. I won’t complain
about something I handled like an ingénue

I recall a tiff we had after school
and later–coming back to my old town
glad to see you again–then
crushed by the humiliation from your lips
sorry, but I am too old to kerfuffle with you–
I like me fine–finally–

Hiding this
under nom de plume
giving you what you always wanted
the last word
