someone has to stay positive

your heart tells you, that
you have a right to complain
every grievance
nurtured, coddled, petted, and held
close to the vest
like an adopted child
raising him as your own
until there is
no appropriate time
to abandon the wee one
growing fast until
it outgrows your house
comments on the street
and after church services
asking, would he be playing
basketball, and a year later
football? Then one day
suddenly he breaks through
to the parlor
clean through the wall
whining
with his head against the celing
in pain
criticizing your cooking
and talking about how
the house is his now
