have one (on me)

sinking back into the slough
my words mixed with yours
from across the room
regret I stepped in
on the soles of my shoes
ripening on the mat

poured into a shaker
with tonic and bitters
would the words turn blue-
then purple, from grenadine-
never mind, my blood
is in there already
