Macaroni and cheese

I put a lot of stock in those dreams
thinking they would sustain me
and you know it’s over
this dreaming-sharing-holding-
embracing-lasting
creamy love we crave in our cells

the part of us that is sick
to expect something
that doesn’t belong to us
and to scream at the world
because we are hungry for thrills
is not reason enough to steal

they owe me nothing
and they do not know me
I don’t know them
but we like the feeling of comfort
it is universal, like pudding
or macaroni and cheese

at just the right moment
mending fences
and closing wounds

Give me your two cents
